Here is my guide or procedure for constructing, designing, and writing my own Spells

Because of the very nature of Magic, each working should be highly individualized and personal. Even if following a traditional spell or someone elses spell, it should be tailored to your specific needs so that it becomes most effective in manifesting your desire, will, and intentions. Understanding the basics of spell construction will enable you to formulate your own specific, effective spells for any purpose or desire.

Preliminary planning is necessary and vital to ensuring the spells effectiveness and accuracy. The very first step is to decide what your desired end result should be. Before you can start, you must decide where you are going, and where you will end. You must be very explicit.

It is important also, that you choose your time carefully. You should take into consideration all astrological implications, energy currents, moon phases, and the specific day of the week. (Some spells can be written and cast that don't require you to cast them using these elements, but that is when you have applied a master like knowledge of all the components of magic and spellcasting).

The Moon is the closest astrological body to us and therefore, has a profound influence upon us, it is very important to choose a time when the Moon is in an astrological sign which is appropriate for your working.

For Example:

  • Aries/Action- Enthusiasm
  • Taurus/Renewal- Sensuality
  • Gemini/Communication- Curiosity
  • Cancer/Emotion- Nurturing
  • Leo/Vitality- Determined
  • Virgo/Organizing- Studious
  • Libra/Balance- Cooperation
  • Scorpio/Sexual- Philosophical
  • Sagittarius/Strength- Humor
  • Capricorn/Authority- Ambitious
  • Aquarius/Innovation- Social
  • Pisces/Sensitivity- Idealistic
  • Bear in mind that magical workings for gain, increase , or bring things to you, should be initiated when the Moon is Waxing (From New to Full); when the Moon is Wanning (From Full to New), it is the time for magical workings that decrease or send away such as banishing, relieving pain, getting over stress, anxiety, anger, a lost love etc.

The highest energy occurs at the Full Moon and, therefore, this is the most powerful time for magical workings. The New Moon is the next most powerful time for Magic.

Whenever possible follow Nature's natural energy currents. There is a natural time for starting things (a planting time), for maturing things (a growing time), for reaping things (a harvest time) and, of course, a time for rest and planning. Flowing with these currents will make your magical working much easier.

Remember to plan your working for a time of uninterrupted privacy and consistency. It is important that you have no distractions, although this can be extremely difficult when you live with others, live within an urban jungle yard, or have a hectic stressful life. Generally speaking, it is best to work as late at night as possible. A time when there is less frantic energy whirling about is most appropriate. You might consider midnight or later, although any time when the moon is out is fine also, even during the day if you must.

In choosing your place to do your magical working pay particular attention to your needs, for you must be comfortable and relaxed. Your place should be private, quiet, and secure. If at all possible, set aside a special place for this purpose only. An unused room, a special corner of your bedroom, a quiet, secluded spot in your garden or outback, an altar etc. A place that is yours, a place that you can come to whenever the need arises and that is free from intrusion of others as possible.

Prior to the night of your magical working, gather all of the things you will need. All of the things used in your working are tools. They have no inherent magic, although they can be charged for such purposes. They are are to help you create the mood, and to direct energy. If correctly made or used, they will trigger primitive responses from deep within you. They should be chosen with care. Consider the purpose of your working and choose your tools accordingly. If your Magic is to be healing, your candles, oils, incense, and so forth should bring or represent a healing mood, response, and effect. If the desired result of your magic is tranquility, then your tools should make you feel calm, peaceful, and serene. Any candles you might use should not have commercially added oils or fragrances as these may not be appropriate for your working or interfere in some unknown way.

Prior to your working, prepare yourself and your equipment and tools by any means necessary to clean and purify them, to rid them of negative energies, or left over excess. Historically, people have fasted, followed meticulous and detailed bathing practices, smudging rituals, blessings, and has practiced a variety of other methods.

Most often a ritual bath is the preferred method in addition to smudging. A bath frequently utilizing candlelight, fragrant herbs, bath salts, or sensuous oils. A sumptuous hot bath, special bathing preparations and appropriate lighting, combined, can create the soothing effect which will help in the very important step of relaxing and clearing the mind ofcomplexly, and of all mundane thoughts and distractions of the experiences of the day. Your ritual bath should, also, begin to set specific vibrations conductive to your working and purpose. You must not only cleanse and purify but must, also, begin to create the type of energy necessary.

Once you have accomplished the previous steps, you are ready to begin. Proceed to your ritual or sacred space, you may want to work in complete silence or work with a choice of music that accompanies and is conductive to your working. Start your working Start by meditating and gathering energy and utilizing such tools and candles, incense etc.

The altered state of mind/consciousness that you must reach is not a meditative state. Anything that interferes with your ability to concentrate upon, reach and control the high energy state necessary to perform magic, should be avoided. Such as, screaming children or people, a sink full of dirty dishes, use of alcohol or drugs etc. Do not scatter your energy by attempting to do more than one magical working at a time.

Remember that Magic is the manipulation of energy, a thought is a form of energy and; visualization is an even stronger form of energy, and turning that energy into manifestation. Your visualization can be a method used to intensify or amplify , and may help further direct your will and intend. Your visualization can be a method by which you control the magical energy you have attained and produced. You must know what you want, you must see it, you must feel the high concentration of energy flowing. You must direct it.

One of the most important elements in the practice of any form of Magic is the universal law of cause and effect also known or similar to (Karma or the Law of Three). This means that no matter what you do it comes back to you in a like manner or kind. It is the nature of things that as you send something out it gains momentum, so that, by the time it comes back full circle to you, it is three times as strong. As you weave and spin your spell, Threefold return the tale will tell.

Spell Construction Worksheet- The following questions are used as a guide to help you create a successful and effective spell or working.

  • 1, What are the ultimate desired outcomes, effects, and goals of the spell?
  • 2. What is your sole intent and purpose?
  • 3. What tools and items are needed for the spell (Include all tools such as candles, incense, herbs, oils, alter, stones, wands, potions, objects, pictures, lighters, figurines/statues etc.)?
  • 4. What deities, spirits, or entities must or will be called, invoked/evoked, summoned?
  • 5. What time of day, day of the week, which moon phase, and where exactly is the spell or working going to be cast or performed (describe the environment) etc.
  • 6.What are the risks, consequences, and or unseen outcomes or side effects the spell or working will cause or create? If unsure contemplate what could or what might happen from the spell or working.
  • 7. What level of energy or magic is needed to cast or perform the spell or working, can you successfully cast the spell by yourself or do you need assistance from others such as another witch or coven?
  • 8. Have you had any signs, dreams, visualizations etc. about the spell, if so what and describe what you think they mean?
  • 9. What obstacles or barriers do you think could prevent you from casting or performing the spell or working. Are there any stronger opposing forces that may prevent you from being successful, if so what are they and describe why and how you could overcome them?
  • In regards on using other peoples spells I believe you should write your own, the spell you write and cast is for a specific goal and you are putting your desires, goals, and intent into the spell. I have to mention that spells do not have to be elaborate nor do they have to rhyme although some people prefer them that way and rhyming also gives a flow of resonant energy that vibrates, but again is not necessary. Spells can simply be stating your desire or goal, they can be complex and ritualistic in which you perform certain actions and using tools such as candles, incense, paper, wands etc. No matter what you decide to do it is the intent you put into the spell and ultimately the outcome is what matters most. Also think about the consequences of the spell whether they are positive or negative and think about how the spell will affect others. Some things are unavoidable but use common sense. If you feel that you need to use someone else's spell that is okay too; as long as you think about the things stated above.

In closing I have to say that it takes a lot of experience and practice to be successful, it may take years or even a lifetime to master or gain control over your abilities in magic and in manipulating energy. There is no easy way or shortcut in magic or in life, at least none that will lead to a positive sense of well being and happiness, none that are beneficial anyway. I also have to mention that if you were taught a certain way how to practice or perform magic workings, that doesn't mean it's the only way. Sometimes people have to experiment with other ways of doing things before they find what works best with them. Gaining a new outlook or learning new things is never a bad thing. Although it takes much hard work, dedication, conviction, perseverance, and effort to gain an adept level of success. Most importantly you should do what you feel is right for you, and what is most comfortable for you, laziness however will not get you far.
